Orpheus and Spartacus"

A week tour of the Pirin, Rila and Rhodopes Mountains regions in the southern part of Bulgaria

Day 1: Arrival at Sofia airport. Transfer to a 3-or 4-star hotel. A sightseeing tour of the city, featuring the "Alexander Nevski" Memorial Cathedral, the "St. Sofia" Church, the "St. George" Rotunda, and other historic sites. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: After breakfast departure to Bansko (170 km). Accommodation at a 3-or 4-star hotel. A walking tour of the old part of this beautiful town. Lunch at an old tavern, traditional dishes, folk singing and dancing. Then, a trip to the village of Dobersko, visiting the "St. St. Theodor Tyron and Theodor Stratilat" Church (15th century) with rare frescos and mural paintings. Back to Bansko for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: After breakfast departure to the town of Plovdiv. On the way a stopover in the village of Kovachevitsa. A walking tour of the village will introduce you to the architecture of the National Revival period. Lunch in a tavern housed in one of the old houses. A stopover in the nearby village of Leshten, founded in the early 18th century. Arrival in Plovdiv, dinner and overnight at a 3-or 4-star hotel.

Day 4: After breakfast, a sightseeing tour of Plovdiv, visiting the "Old Town" and the Roman Amphitheatre. Departure for the resort of Pamporovo. On the way a stopover at the Bachkovo monastery. Arrival at a 3-or 4-star hotel in Pamporovo. Lunch, leasure time. Dinner in "Chevermeto", a tavern offering roast lamb, local music and dances.

Day 5: After breakfast departure for the birthplace of the legendary Spartacus, the town of Sandanski. Via the village of Shiroka Luka, well-known for its unique Rhodopian architecture, via the town of Gotze Delchev, nearby the most picturesque spot in the Pirin Mountains, the "Papastchair - the Monks' meadows" (250 km). On the way a stopover to visit the 16th century Rozhen monastery and the old museum town Melnik. Lunch in a tavern, where you'll try the famous Melnik red wine. Arrival in the town of Sandanski. Dinner and overnight at the 4-star "Sandanski" hotel.

Day 6: After breakfast departure for the Rila Monastery. On the way a stopover at the Ethnographical complex "Varosha" in Blagoevgrad. Lunch at the Rila Monastery, sightseeing tour of the monastery, dinner and overnight at a local hotel.

Day 7: After breakfast departure to Sofia (130 km). Lunch, then a visit to the National History Museum. Dinner at a folkstyle restaurant. Overnight at a 3-or 4-star hotel.

Day 8: After breakfast, leasure time, then lunch and transfer to Sofia airport for your flight home.
